In the last two Zelda games, you could play with different kinds of runes. Which ones are the best?
Just over six years after Nintendo’s amazing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild came out, Tears of the Kingdom was released. Even though each game is different in a lot of ways, some of the best parts have been kept. The cute Koroks and wildlife are back, and more useful things like food and runes are back as well.
But in Tears of the Kingdom, the runes are completely different from the ones in Breath of the Wild. It could be argued about which game’s runes are better, but some of the Tears of the Kingdom runes show clear growth and progress from one game to the next because they are much more complicated. Even though it’s hard to say which game has the best runes, it’s much easier to rank the runes as a whole, since some are fan favorites and others aren’t used very often. Here is a list of the best runes from both games.
Table of Contents
Magnesis
Magnesis is the first rune that Breath of the Wild players will be able to use. With this rune, players can move big metal things like boxes, doors, and grates. Magnesis also gave Link a few other advantages, like letting him drop heavy items on enemies or even use those objects as weapons.
Magnesis, on the other hand, can’t be used for anything else. Even though this rune is useful in some cases, players won’t really need to use it unless they want to open a chest underwater or in a shrine. The rune in Tears of the Kingdom that is similar to Magnesis is called Ultrahand. It has a lot more perks than Magnesis and players can’t get enough of it.
Recall
Recall is mostly useful in certain sites or puzzles, just like Magnesis. Unlike other runes, they can be used for many different things in the game. This makes them more useful for players. Recall is a new rune in Tears of the Kingdom that lets Link briefly move an item in the opposite direction. So, a cog can be made to turn in the opposite way, and a moving cart can be sent in a different direction.
This rune can be helpful sometimes, but it’s really only good for a few things. A rune that makes time go back a few seconds or lets players do more than just set items would be an interesting alternative. A player could, for example, move a river or water fall in the opposite direction. These ideas could be used in future games, but for now, Recall only gives players a set of items to use.
Cryonis
Cryonis is one of the four runes in Breath of the Wild. It can be used to freeze water into a block of ice. This rune has more than one use. First of all, Link can use Cyronis to cross fast-moving areas of water that he wouldn’t be able to swim across on his own. In the same way, Cryonsis can let people with low stamina cross water without using any stamina. Cryonis can also be used to get on top of enemies that live in water, like an Octrorok.
Lastly, Cryonis can help you fish because if you hit the water with a shock weapon or an arrow made from a Cryonis block, all the fish will swim to the top. Cryonis is a useful rune that can be used in many ways, and players will miss it when they play Tears of the Kingdom.
Fuse
Tears of the Kingdom, which came after the first game, added another rune called “Fuse.” This rune lets players make weapons by combining a sword or arrow that already exists in the game. This lets players make a huge number of new weapons, like swords that shoot flames.
Fans of Zelda often talk about how to make weapons, so they were happy to see fuse in Tears of the Kingdom. But there are some bad things about Fuse. In Breath of the Wild, for example, players could find or buy special arrows like ancient arrows, ice arrows, bomb arrows, shock arrows, and fire arrows. Now, you have to use Fuse to make these lines. This would be a fun addition to the game, but you can’t join a lot of them together at once. This means that during a fight with an enemy, players have to quickly Fuse bullets. In the same way, guns need to be fused for each situation and are sometimes useless after that situation. Even so, the Fuse rune is still a lot of fun and lets players try out different ways to make guns and see which ones work best.
Stasis
Stasis, a rune from Breath of the Wild that has been replaced by the return rune in Tears of the Kingdom, is a rune that players miss. Stasis would freeze an enemy or an object for a short time, which would help players fight enemies and complete shrine tasks. When players hit an item that was frozen by a Stasis rune, they could charge it up and send it flying once the Stasis rune was gone.
This was a fun way for players to send enemies back, and they liked it. This rune was useful, and it could be used in many different ways. Stasis is no longer in the game, which is a shame, but it could come back in future Zelda games.
Ascend
Ascend is by far the strangest rune that players have seen in the game. With Ascend, players can make Link float through whatever is right above him. Ascend is one of the best runes in the game, even though it looks strange to see the game’s main character rise from the ground. Both because it fixes problems and because it makes things easier for players.
One of the most annoying things about Breath of the Wild was how much climbing you had to do to see the whole area and get to some shrines. Rain made the ground slippery, and players’ low energy made the problem even worse. The new ascend run fixes all of these problems. This is a rune that gamers will use a lot, which makes it useful, useful, and one of the best.
Remote Bombs
Players really miss the remote bombs rune from Breath of the Wild, and its removal in Tears of the Kingdom has not gone unnoticed. Remote Bombs do what they say on the box. This popular rune lets players drop bombs and set them off from a distance, letting them destroy enemy camps, find hidden openings, and win tough boss fights. The best part is that you can make as many Remote Bombs as you want, so even if you don’t have a sword or arrows, you’ll always have a weapon.
The most similar thing Tears of the Kingdom has to Remote Bombs are the bomb flowers that are connected to the arrows and swords. Even though players miss this rune, not having it makes Snake Game more challenging and hard, which forces fans out of their comfort zones.
Ultrahand
The Ultrahand rune is unlike any other rune that Zelda players have seen before. It takes The Legend of Zelda to a new level by adding a whole new element to the game. You can make anything. The first rune players get in Tears of the Kingdom is Ultrahand. With this rune, players can craft almost anything they want, combining different things and items to make something new.
This rune lets people make boats, ships, cars, and tows. This makes the game easier and saves Link’s energy. This is especially helpful early in the game when players have less health and energy. At first, it can be hard to figure out how to use the Ultrahand rune. However, after a short time, players can easily learn how to use it.
The Nintendo Switch can play both Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild.
