Fans of collect-a-thon games can’t go wrong with any of these Switch games.
Out of all the big names in video games, Nintendo is the only one that really cares about platformers. The Nintendo Switch is the best platform for fans of the type because it has a lot of games that fit into it.
One kind of platformer is called a “collect-a-thon.” In this type of game, the player has to find big groups of objects to move forward in the game. Even though there are a few Nintendo games in this area, the Switch also has a lot of indie and third-party collect-a-thons.
Hell Pie
Most of the time, collect-a-thon platformers have bright figures and happy themes. In Hell Pie, which is about a demon and his pet angel looking for fixings for Satan’s birthday pie, that is definitely not the case.
Hell Pie takes place in four different worlds, and players must use Nate the Demon’s unique moves to get through hard platforming parts. There are also a lot of violent scenes and serious topics, which is different from most other 3D platformers on the Nintendo Switch.

Super Kiwi 64
Siactro is a well-known independent creator who has made a name for themselves by making short 3D platforming games. Their most recent game, Super Kiwi 64, is a fun take on a game from the Nintendo 64 era.

Demon Turf’s main goal is to get to the end of each level, but there is so much more to the game than that. As Beebz, players can set up their own goals as they play, which makes the game feel more personalized. Also, the levels change after you beat them, giving you more ways to explore.
SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated
The Nintendo Switch is a great console for families, and one of the most famous cartoons has a pretty good collect-a-thon platformer for it. SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated is a remake of a popular game from 2003.
Plankton’s robot-making machine goes wrong, so SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy have to clean up his mess all over Bikini Bottom. This includes going to places like Jellyfish Fields and Goo Lagoon that are important to the game. The goal of Battle for Bikini Bottom is to keep collecting Golden Spatulas to open up new places.
Tinykin
From the time a player picks up Tinykin, it’s clear that the indie game got a lot of ideas from Nintendo classics like Pikmin and Paper Mario. But because it is a 3D collect-a-thon on a platform, it is very different from these games and stands out on its own.
Milo is an astronaut who lands on Earth and finds that he is the size of a bug. He has to look through a big house to find all the parts he needs to build a ship and get back home. Along the way, he’ll meet tiny critters called Tinykin that will help him get past problems and solve puzzles.
Lil Gator Game
Many Nintendo games have a sense of adventure built in, and Lil Gator Game shows what it’s like for little kids to play outside and pretend to go on their own adventures. Big Sis is back from college, and Lil Gator is excited to play games with her again. However, Big Sis uses her laptop to work on a school project.
The goal of Flappy Bird game is to get a bunch of kids who are spread out all over the island to go to the playground so that Big Sis will stop working on her computer and have some fun. Lil Gator Game is a collect-a-thon, so you have to break a bunch of monster standees that are set up to “fight” Lil Gator.
Ty The Tasmanian Tiger
Collect-a-thons are an old-school way to play 3D platform games, which is why so many games from a time when these games were much more popular have been re-released. One of these games is Ty the Tasmanian Tiger, which came out first on platforms like the GameCube and PlayStation 2.
Ty goes through each of the 17 levels looking for the five Talismans that will open the door to Dreaming, an alternate dimension where other Tassie Tigers are trapped. He does this so he can find his family. In Ty the Tasmanian Tiger, players can use 13 different boomerangs, each of which has its own set of skills that help them move forward in the story.
Bowser’s Fury
Super Mario 3D World is a standard Mario game where the goal is to get to the end of a level. However, the Nintendo Switch version comes with a separate game called Bowser’s Fury that uses the 3D World platforming mechanics in an open world collect-a-thon setting.
Bowser has turned into a scary, slimy monster at Lake Lapcat, and Bowser Jr. asks Mario for help. Bowser’s Fury is all about collecting Cat Shines, which let you use a special Cat skill to beat Bowser. Bowser will sometimes show up when Mario is busy collecting Shines and try to mess with Mario.
Spyro Reignited Trilogy
Spyro the Dragon was one of the most well-known characters in platform games in the late 1990s. He hasn’t had a brand-new journey since 2008. But the team at Toys for Bob chose to release Spyro Reignited Trilogy, which is a remake of the classic Insomniac Games trilogy that was on the original PlayStation.
Spyro Reignited Trilogy has a familiar gameplay loop for most fans of collect-a-thons. Levels are all about collecting gems, freeing dragons, and completing other tasks and challenges that make use of the world and Spyro’s unique moves.
Super Mario Odyssey
While collecting a certain amount of shiny objects has always been a part of the main 3D Mario games, Super Mario Odyssey took it to the next level by letting players wander around a stage for hours on end, completing challenges or just getting to certain checkpoints to earn Power Moons.
With Mario’s new friend Cappy as his hat, the player can throw the hat and take control of the person or thing it lands on. This added a new dimension to the collect-a-thon gaming and really made Super Mario Odyssey a one-of-a-kind game.
