Your sister is one of the few people you can always count on. These women show what the bond is all about.
Nothing is as strong as the bond between sisters, but for some reason, there aren’t that many important sisters in video games. Most of the time, women in games are written as only children or minor characters, if they have any family history at all. There are a lot of famous mothers in games, which means there are also a lot of famous daughters. However, for some reason, we don’t see many female siblings in games.
But there are a few exceptions that stand out. Some of these women might not be our favorite relatives, but they show what it’s like to be a sister. These sisters have the strongest family ties. They can be anything from a loving friend to a friendly rival, and from an emotional rock to an arch-enemy.

Anna And Nina Williams – Tekken Seires
We’ve already said that we don’t want to be related to Anna or Nina Williams, but you can’t choose your family. Since they were being trained as assassins and often tried to humiliate each other on missions before the first Tekken, these two have been at each other’s throats.
Even though we wouldn’t want to be in the middle of the Williams’ Christmas dinner, we can tell that they like each other. After all, when Nina lost her memory after being cryogenically frozen, Anna tried to keep her from falling down the rabbit hole and becoming an assassin again. In Tekken 7, Nina killed Anna’s fiance on their wedding day and then ran away in Anna’s dress. This could have gone better.
Saeko And Nanoha Mukoda – Yakuza: Like A Dragon
In Yakuza: Like A Dragon, we don’t spend much time with Nanoha Mukoda, but the time we do spend with her shows how much she cares about her family. She works hard at Otohime Land soap land to make sure that her father can stay at what she thinks is the best old people’s home in Ijincho, even though the prices are crazy high.
But when things start to get out of hand and she and Ichiban’s group get involved in a murder, her sister Saeko quietly steps in to help. Even though they don’t talk much anymore, Saeko cares enough about her sister and dad that she risks her life to help Ichiban on his quest. All of this just so Nanoha can get her life back to something close to normal.
Popola And Devola – Nier Series
Devola and Popola first showed up in the first Nier game as locals in Nier’s village. They work well together as a tavern performer and the local librarian. As that first game goes on, Nier learns how much they care about each other, and it turns out that they are both ancient androids.
Even though it’s been thousands of years, the two still live together and show up when 9S needs help to get inside the Tower and maybe end the war between machines and androids. Later, A2 meets the sisters who were both killed during the attack. They seem to be at peace now that they’ve helped 2B and 9S, but they die soon after, holding each other.
Lightning And Serah Farron – Final Fantasy 13
Lightning might be the most well-known character from the Final Fantasy 13 games, but Serrah, Lightning’s sister, was also very important to those games. In Final Fantasy 13, Lightning’s quest to find her sister sets off the whole story, and in 13-2, Serah’s quest to find her sister did the same thing.
These two would do anything for each other, and they do. They are also some of the most fashionable sisters in games. One of them even got a deal with Louis Vuitton and Prada. Maybe we’re jealous that neither of them is our sister and we can’t borrow their clothes when we go to parties or on an epic quest to kill monsters.
The Little Sisters And The Big Sisters – BioShock
Okay, we really don’t want these girls as our sisters, because if that’s the case, we’ve either become an ADAM-farming monster or, even worse, one of BioShock‘s murderous Big Sisters. Still, if you are going to be a horrible henchwoman for an ultra-libertarian leader of a doomed underwater city, this found family of orphans wouldn’t be the worst siblings to have. Even if some of them really have been taken from their parents…
Even though plasmids and ADAM have changed them, these sisters still care very much about their family. So much so that the girls’ adopted fathers are very careful with them. Even though they might not look like a typical family, these girls are still sisters at heart.
The Giana Sisters – The Great Giana Sisters
What are some fun things to do with your sister? Playing dress up, playing a sport together, and stealing someone else’s work! After Time Wrap Productions suggested that Super Mario Bros. could be played on computers like the Amiga and Commodore 64, we made these two sisters. When Nintendo made it clear that it had no plans to put the plumber brothers on any other system than the NES, the studio made its own platforming game.
Giana and her sister Maria’s first game may have been a bold reskin of Mario Bros. that could only be played on computers of the time, but in the years since then, they’ve found a niche audience. They also got new games for the DS, PS3, Xbox 360, and other systems. Even though they may not be the most well-known sisters in games, they are the most bold.
Zofia And Jessica Blazkowicz – Wolfenstein: Youngblood
Wolfenstein: Youngblood wasn’t as good as the first game. The fast-paced FPS combat of the first two Wolfenstein games just didn’t work in a level-based, co-op RPG. But even though the sequel that left BJ Blazkowicz and his friends behind wasn’t a hit, it did get one thing right: how two badass Nazi-fighting twins interacted with each other.
Soph and Jess are just the brothers of two sisters who are always trying to top each other. Even though that sounds like it could get boring, their chemistry is so natural and contagious that you can’t help but laugh when they race to kill the most members of the Fourth Reich or help each other feel better by telling each other to “rock on.”
Samantha And Kaitlin Greebbriaar – Gone Home
Sisters are great because you know they’ll be there for you when you need them. Usually, you don’t even have to say it. All you need to know is that one of them is a cool big sister who would kill to protect her younger sibling. In Gone Home, that’s how Kaitlin and Samantha’s lives are.
What seems to be a look at their relationship as they wander through a deserted house in 1995 quickly turns into a story about a big sister watching her younger sister grow up and finding herself. Sam’s relationship with Lonnie may be the main focus of Happy Wheels game, but a recurring theme is how Sam feels that Kaitlin is the only person who sees and accepts her for who she really is. Definitely a good sister.
Evie Frye – Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate
One kind of sister is always there for you, and the other will help you out when you make a mistake. In Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, Evie is the smarter of the two Freys. Jacob might be the stronger of the two, but Evie is no pushover.
When Jacob rushes in head first, Evie usually has to sneak in behind him and clean up his mess. She still loves him, and he still loves her very much. Even though they are very different, they work well together because of that.
Amicia De Rune – A Plague Tale Series
Amicia de Rune is the best sister in video games in so many ways that we could make a whole list of them.
But at the end of the day, the main character in A Plague Tale is the best sister because she is the only one who is willing to deal with a sea of rats to protect her brother. That’s a good thing.
